Director of Operations & Sustainability
A Swiss national, Daniel began his hospitality career with an apprenticeship as a chef and soon after obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel & Restaurant management from the Hotel Management School Belvoirpark Zurich as well as a diploma in hotel marketing from Cornell University, Ithaca, USA.
Daniel’s career soon brought him to Asia, and since 1992 he has been opening and managing hotels and various food and beverage concepts for private owners as well as international hotel management groups such as Starwood, Carlson and Accor in Vietnam, Singapore, China, Thailand and Cambodia.
In 2009 Daniel forged ahead with his education by adding a master’s degree in Environmental Management and Technology from the University of North-Western Switzerland, School of Life Science, for which he wrote a thesis on environmental sustainability (Cleaner Production) considerations during the planning and pre-opening phase of hotels.
His absolute passion in the field of environmental sustainability led him, in 2012, to create a consulting firm providing environmental management system (EMS) support via corporate training and third party EMS audits for global brands such as Cheval Blanc, Kempinski, Banyan Tree and more.
Daniel’s professional vision is to support a future business paradigm in which environmental sustainability is an integrated business strategy aspect.
In his spare time, he hones his body and mind studying non-aggressive, Japanese martial arts as well as the philosophy of the Stoics.
